Sexual Deviances Essays - Psychiatric Diagnosis, Human Sexuality

Sexual Deviances Sexual disarranges are classified into three general gatherings. The bunches are sexual dysfunctions, sexual deviations, and homosexuality. These are a bit much strange, yet what is considered strange by either the psychological wellness foundation, or society, or both. The main gathering, sexual dysfunctions, have expanded essentially in the course of the most recent decade. Which, thus, has expanded the advancement in the investigation and treatment of sexual dysfunctions. One significant angle that came out of William bosses and Virginia Johnson's exploration is arranging the different types of dysfunctions. Firmly related is Kaplan's framework which bunches sexual dysfunctions as indicated by the stage in the sexual reaction cycle in which they happen. There are three stages in the sexual reaction cycle. The initial one, called the longing stage, includes sexual dreams and enthusiasm for sexual movement. Inability to feel this in either a man or lady is called hypoactive sexual want. The second stage is known as the energy stage. In this stage, the sexual dream, or experience is typically trailed by physiological changes. The nonattendance or shortcoming of these reactions is called erectile brokenness (or feebleness) in men, and general sexual brokenness in ladies. The third stage is known as the climax stage. This is the period of sexual reaction. On the off chance that the man is incapable to apply control, and discharges rapidly, this is called untimely discharge. On the off chance that, then again, discharge is incredibly postponed, or doesn't occur by any stretch of the imagination, this is called hindered discharge. A deferral or nonattendance of climax in ladies is called orgastic brokenness. There are two additional kinds of sexual brokenness that don't fit totally with this typology. The first is a female clutter called vaginisimus. This happens while, during sex, the dividers of the vagina contract automatically, making inclusion of the penis troublesome or unthinkable. The subsequent issue is dyspareunia, or torment during intercourse. This happens in both genders, yet is typically a female protest. To make these sorts considerably increasingly explicit, Kaplan partitions these scatters into two measurements. They are essential and auxiliary. Essential brokenness has been with the person as far back as their soonest sexual encounters. In an optional brokenness the reaction has been ordinary on in any event one event, however is irregular at the hour of determination. Sexual deficiency is a typical dread among people the same. Numerous clinicians express that this dread is quite often present in instances of people growing up of exacting strict universality family units, and that were instructed that sex is evil and frightful. ?One lady seen by Masters and Johnson was told by her mother on her big day: It would be her obligation as a spouse to permit her significant other ?benefits?. The benefits were never explained. She additionally was guaranteed that she would be harmed by her spouse, however that ?it? would disappear in time. At last and most significant, she was informed that ?acceptable ladies? never communicated enthusiasm for the ?thing?. Her compensation for serving her significant other would be, ideally, in having children.?(Acocella 266) Sexual deviations, which are presently talked about coolly, were discussed in murmurs close to a quarter century prior. There are ten unique regions of sexual deviations. These ten are: fetishism, transvestitism, exhibitionism, voyeurism, pedophilia, inbreeding, assault, perversion, and masochism. Fetishism is the solid sexual fascination in lifeless objects. The most well-known objects of fetishism are ladies' shoes, undies, wigs, and hide. One case was refered to about a man being sexual satisfied by seeing very much framed vehicle exhaust pipes. For all intents and purposes the entirety of the detailed instances of fetishism include guys. This doesn't really imply that there are no cases including females, be that as it may, it just implies that females are a lot more averse to be captured, or even announced, than guys. A lady with clear sexual peculiarities or irregularities may draw in consideration or hatred, yet the vast majority don't think about her risky. Guys, then again, with this conduct, tend to be seen as an open danger. Transvestites are like fetishists in that they are explicitly energized by lifeless things. Be that as it may, transvestites go one above and beyond, and really put on their fixations, which are the garments of the other gender. On account of the relationship with female dress, transvestitism is effectively mistaken for homosexuality, however they are two very discrete examples. A few gay people do cross-dress, yet these people are alluded to as ?drag sovereigns'. ?..as per one investigation of 262 transvestites (Buckner, 1970), the cast dominant part of transvestites consider themselves as heterosexuals.?(Acocella 273) Transvestitism is thought to be moderately uncommon, however likewise with female sexual abnormalities, the revealed irregularity might be because of absence of open presentation of open caution. Numerous transvestites lead calm, traditional lives, cross-dressing in

Organizational Communications Analysis Women’s Resource Center at Norman, Oklahoma

The Women’s Resource Center was initially begun in 1973 and 1974 throughout the winter. It was initially begun by an alumni understudy who needed to help ladies who were on the move focuses in the life. This association couldn't work without viable correspondence and to break down the correspondence techniques of the association can give accommodating data that could additionally improve them. This incorporated those ladies who were searching for work just as ladies who needed to come back to class. Since its opening the inside has created numerous projects and administrations (â€Å"History.. † 1). There are numerous projects accessible at the Women’s Resource Center and these incorporate WRC Victims of Domestic Violence Shelter (giving safe impermanent lodging to survivors of aggressive behavior at home and their kids); Rape Response Team (prepared volunteers who are accessible to meet with assault casualties at the ER); directing (specific for survivors of rape or local maltreatment); WRC Education Program (offers staff that talk in an assortment of spots for about subjects managing abusive behavior at home, date assault, sound connections and different themes); Children’s Program (bunches that attention on letting kids express their feelings and emotions); Court Advocacy (court backers to help ladies through the lawful framework); and WRC Cells (a program to offer casualties mobile phones at no expense in the event of a crisis) (â€Å"Programs.. † 1-2). There are additionally some preparation workshops. The principle one is SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Exa miner) Volunteer Training, a particular preparing for attendants to figure out how to do measurable assault test units (â€Å"Training†¦Ã¢â‚¬ 1). Powerful correspondence is a unique little something that are critical to how well an association is run. The Women’s Resource Center in Norman, Oklahoma has a ton of qualities in their correspondences. They work admirably of preparing both their staff and their volunteers. They work with their staff on issues about correspondences and realizing when to talk and when to have the option to permit others to talk as they are managing individuals in troublesome circumstances. They figure out how to successfully impart for the circumstances that they are in where there is a high hazard to the ladies that they are conversing with. This implies there is a ton of preparing put into the possibility of correspondences for this association. Their principle quality in correspondence is the general capacity to discuss successfully with the individuals who are in a predicament. The explanation that this works so well is that there is a lot of things in the correspondence procedure (Lee 2). Realizing the correspondence procedure can incredibly help how interchanges are for individuals. As indicated by Lass well’s model of correspondence there should be an impact for the correspondence to occur. This is stating that what is being conveyed necessities to have a point and a bearing. In this correspondence procedure the association is attempting to bring up that ladies merit regard and confidence (Lee 3). The possibility of viable correspondence for change is something that this association progresses nicely. The association has made a ton of changes in the past both the long haul past and the ongoing past. These progressions are successfully conveyed if three significant segments are accessible in the system. This investigation by Larkin and Larkin expressed: â€Å"Communicate just realities; quit imparting esteems. Convey eye to eye; don't depend on recordings, distributions or huge scope gatherings. Furthermore, target bleeding edge bosses; don't let officials acquaint the change with cutting edge workers. † This is a case of the compelling things that Women’s Resource Center conveys as they utilize a procedure that shows that each level learns new things (Cheney 330). A portion of the negative things that are done at the Women’s Resource Center with correspondences are that the trainings are not accessible to people in general for data. They do offer some preparation classes yet at long last the trainings are not accessible as a program on the extreme level. The correspondence procedure isn't also done in notice or getting the word out about the projects that are accessible. Another region that shows shortcoming in correspondence is the association. There is anything but a solid association in this organization and there are a wide range of individuals chipping in or potentially working for the office. A portion of the regions that could utilize improvement incorporate the regions of correspondence about the association and all through the associations volunteers and workers. This implying they all could utilize better correspondence to convey between each other. The thought as expressed in a similar report as above is that there is some of the time little validity to the qualities could be one of the correspondence issues here as it would be an issue in conveying and that the upper administration and governing body have not had an extremely clear vision with the Women’s Resource Center the same number of things have changed about their fundamental qualities and thoughts since the formation of the inside which could create some turmoil (Cheney 330-333). A second region that has messed some up with interchanges in the association has been an absence of utilized assets. This implies there are a ton of volunteers who probably won't have indistinguishable guidelines to imparting needs from normal full time or even low maintenance workers would have. So as to viably improve these regions there would need to be a framework set up which would allow the two volunteers and workers to communicate their sentiments and thoughts without the dread of being aggrieved and with the possibility that any individual who is included has a feeling that issues. The possibility that correspondence is a major piece of administration and how well initiative runs depends on the leader’s capacity to convey successfully. For this situation this would be a territory for required improvement (Cheney 205-206). There are numerous territories where upgrades could be made in the correspondence forms with the Women’s Resource Center. A portion of these regions are that the administration could be give better help to the entirety of the volunteers and workers the same. Something else that could happen is that the individuals who are included would have the option to voice their feelings and give a case for care. They would have the option to successfully convey their requirements in a procedure that would be pre-created by the board as it would be something that they could use all the time. This implies they would have the option to more readily deal with their correspondences needs by viably figuring out how to determine issues and talk about issues with legitimate interchanges. The hypothesis of Schramm on correspondence and the possibility that covering limits and encounters make for simpler interchanges is key in the field and administrations that the Women’s Resource Center is giving. It is in this procedure that these laborers and volunteers would have the option to discuss better with the demographic dependent on whether they had the equivalent or comparative encounters from before (Lee 3-4). The qualities and shortcomings for this association were evident when perusing the public statements and other data accessible about the association. Additionally the author watched the correspondence perspectives while working for the association before coming back to graduate school. This was seen through being a piece of the organization’s preparing and programs. It was additionally seen through understanding data about the projects and how they are conveyed to the general population. Having the option to successfully convey is significant in the field of social work and for social assistance offices. The one region where correspondence is all around done is between the staff and the casualties that come in for administrations as the preparation programs here are generally excellent. Accordingly their primary quality is having the option to convey well to ladies in predicament. The Women’s Resource Center is an association that necessities to have better relational abilities all together than manage the issues that are being influenced all the time through their association as they promptly don't have the foggiest idea what is happening and once in a while are needing having the option to impart in an increasingly compelling way. One of the primary issues has been an absence of interchanges through the various volunteers and representatives and at long last it has been a reason for some correspondence holes. The primary concern that should be possible to improve the status of these things is for there to be a superior correspondences framework set up all in all for the association. This implies the association would have better correspondence between the administration and the representatives and volunteers. A portion of these correspondence holes are what are causing the defeat for this association and are a portion of the main sources of the general clash that is experienced inside the association. There are continually going to be â€Å"inherent challenges† while talking about correspondence and working environment conditions (Messersmith 1). At long last correspondence is significant in all everyday issues and when there is powerful interchanges in certain regions it loans would like to the possibility that there could be compelling correspondences in every aspect of an association. While breaking down interchanges for the Women’s Resource Center it is no big surprise that there are a wide range of sorts of correspondence utilized and it is no big surprise that there are a few requirements for development. A large portion of the requirement for development falls on the general governing body and their capacity to make an unmistakable arrangement for what they need and what is happening inside the association. Without this they can't offer back to the association what is required so as to be powerful in their administration and different aptitudes. So what is required is for the association to chip away at their having the option to impart better inside th

Fight In Song of Solomon - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1122 Downloads: 8 Date added: 2019/08/08 Category Religion Essay Level High school Topics: Song of Solomon Essay Did you like this example? The symbol of flight has been present in literature throughout many cultures. Often it is used in literature as a symbol of freedom in a sense that it appeals to a sensory-stimulated bliss that defies traditional weight pressure (Hovet 119). The history of flight as a symbol in African American Literature is readapted in Toni Morrisons Song of Solomon by categorizing her characters into different flyers that represent different outcomes of taking the leap. Traditionally, the use of the symbol represents the liberation of being grounded to Earth but released into tranquility and nirvana; by escaping your worldly self, you can fly to a point past humanity. Morrsion explores other ideas through her characters, for example, it is also represented in the multiple men that abandon women throughout the duration of the novel. By exploring different situations in the text where flight is demonstrated, the reader can determine how the theme applies to the characters of the text and how Morrison intended for the theme to be adapted. Though Morrison intricately develops other themes in her novel, such as abandoned women, misogyny, the alienating effects of oppression, and marginalization, the theme of flight is thoroughly layered throughout multiple examples in the text. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Fight In Song of Solomon" essay for you Create order   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Flight has been a prevalent symbol in African American Literature in the past. Gay Wilentz explains in his journal If You Surrender to the Air: Folk Legends of Flight and Resistance in African American Literature that theme of flight is present throughout the African diaspora of slaves. Both written and oral accounts suggest the theme was originally adapted from slaves who jump the side of the slave vessel, committing suicide in fear of what is ahead of them. However, folk lore said instead of falling to their doom they instead flew away back to Africa (Wilentz 22). Wilentz quotes Michele Cliff in her novel Abeng regarding her detailed history of Jamaica: The old women and men believed, before they had to eat salt during the sweated labor in the cane fields, Africans could fly. They were the only people on this Earth to whom God had given this power. Those who refused to be slaves and did not eat salt flew back to Africa (63). The Southern United States hold many versions of the legend as well. A very popular legend describes Africans who turn back around and fly over the ocean upon seeing their fate. This legend likely dates back to Igbos from Eastern Nigeria (Wilentz 23). The other describes an African that teaches slaves who are bound to the Earth how to fly, and then they soar back to Africa. However, the theme carried over into contemporary literature and is demonstrated in Morrisons other novels. Morrison deviates from common themes of flight as she sheds light on the womans position of behind left behind, as well as the flights that dont always land well. It is important to consider the history of the symbol as it lays the foundation for which Morrison builds her intended message.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Grace Ann Hovet and Barbara Lounsberry explore in their journal Flying as a Symbol and Legend in Toni Morrisons The Bluest Eye, Sula and Song of Solomon that Morrison tends to divide her characters into three different types of fliers. The first type are nesting birds. Nesting birds generally never dare to fly and place too much importance on the draw of home. The surviving members of the Dead Clan are nesters. Morrisons opinion on nesters are evident in how she represents her characters in her novel. Nesters are scorned for their stagnancy, and Morrison incorporates a peacock into her symbols and imagery to emphasize this. Peacocks are representative of everlasting life and the resurrection of Christ in traditional Christian symbolism and imagery (Jordan 1). Morrison, however, reverses the meaning of the traditional symbolism and crosses it over with the symbol of flight. She initially links the peacock to the bad of worldly treasure that Milkmans father, Macon Dead, first discovers when he is 16. The peacock is not representative of immortality, however, it is representative of the unhealthy attachments and obsession created between the family and their pursuit of wealth. This is reflected when Dead attempts to seize the bag of money he encountered upon murdering a man in Georgia. Hovet and Lounsberry mention, however, he is taken aback by the sight of it, Life, safety, and luxury fanned out before him like a peacock, as he stood there trying to distinguish each delicious color, he saw the dusty boots of his father standing just on the other side of the shallow pit (Morrison 264). He then promises to protect and uphold that treasure by investing it and marrying a wealthy woman. Milkman tells his father of the gold bag Pilate discovered, and recruits Milkman to steal it for him. Its mentioned that Milkman and Guitar also view gold from the nesters standpoint of prosperity and fulfillment (Hovet 133). The second type of flyer is the falling flyer, who is a daring and dangerous character that take a step of bravery that inevitably leads to their death. Mr. Smith is a falling flyer as he jumps off the hospital roof in the opening scene and dies. This sets a tone that Morrison carries in the novel: that the theme of flight can be linked to death. Though the second are not as well represented in Song of Solomon as it is in Morrisons other novels, the third type of flyers are very consistent throughout the text. The third type of flyers are soarers. Soarers are confident and closely drawn to their community. They represent actualization and self-fulfillment, and although Milkman caused great heartbreak to Hagar when he left, he could be considered a character identified as a soarer. We dont really know the outcome of Milkmans flight; pessimistic readers that assume he plummeted to his death may identify him as a falling flyer; but readers that believe Milkman truly learned to fly and conquered his demons would have faith that he is a soarer. Pilate could also be identified as a soarer as well, as   the novel states on page 510, Now he [Milkman] knew why he loved her so. Without ever leaving the ground, she could fly (Morrison 510). The strength and mobility of Pilate makes her a better-grounded character. She ultimately embodies every aspect of a soaring character. While flight has represented many themes of   liberation throughout the history of African American Literature, Morrisons adaptation of the theme highlights the outlying effects of flying characters. Morrison re examines the context of flight in previous cultures and re models it to reflect a contemporary grasp of the theme. Without the theme of flight present in the novel, Morrison would not have been able to develop her other symbols and imagery.

The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire And Economist Adam Smith

The Age of Enlightenment brought forth some of history’s greatest philosophers who introduced and provided the arguments for contemporary thought and social systems in continued use today. Although historians consider the ideas of natural rights and separation of powers in democracies of the highest order of importance, the economic theories developed by the leading thinkers of the era pervade daily life in all societies. The idea of wealth is timeless, but philosopher Voltaire and economist Adam Smith wrote opposing theories on the true value of wealth and how society should allocate its wealth and resources. Voltaire’s satire Candide, or Optimism features El Dorado, a socialist utopia where the inhabitants treat precious metals and stones as dirt and provide for the general welfare of their city, while Smith’s The Wealth of Nations discusses macroscopic economies and how these economies interact to maximize production and encourage human advancement. Both argum ents make use of ethical, moral, and social ideas, but only work perfectly in a utopian setting. By comparing and contrasting the arguments presented in each of these texts, one establishes an understanding of how economies and societies operating on either capitalism or socialism alone compare to those that incorporate elements of both ideologies. In Candide, or Optimism, Voltaire envisions a paradise, El Dorado, where the inhabitants have all they ever need and the idea of physical wealth or excess does notShow MoreRelatedThe Enlightenment1278 Words   |  6 PagesWorld The Enlightenment, Age of Reason, began in the late 17th and 18th century. The business is served by Cross Streets, and is very close to the US-395 on/off ramp. This location can be accessed by two entrances, one entrance regulated by a street light on Cross Streets. An analysis of crime and traffic statistics satisfies the safety needs of our customers. The on-site parking can accommodate XX cars. In order to create a space that meets our standards, we will need to extend two non-loadbearing half walls to the ceiling, put up electric outdoor signage, replace the bar countertop, place tile over the existing floor in the front of the house, add under-bar lighting, and paint the walls to match our color scheme. Many of these repairs, specifically painting and flooring, can be carried out without a professional contractor; those that cannot will be contracted out to West Coast Contractors. This quality contractor will enable us to capture competitive marketplace pricing and control our costs. Examination of our Startup and Twelve-Month Cash Flow Projection (Figure 3 of the Attachments) provides detail for the cost considerations of our chosen location. Our moderately priced menu will allow us to accommodate disproportionate facility costs relative to our projected revenue potential. We will need to negotiate a â€Å"per-square-foot† lease cost that will support reasonable operating expenses and an opportunity for a profit. Our financial projections indicate we can reasonably accommodate a lease cost in the range of $2. 30 per square foot. Additional common area charges and maintenance expense experience provided by the landlord are also factored into our facility cost projections and are well within the reasonable range for operations of our type. The costs of our operation at this location will also be slightly higher than those of other businesses of our type, however this particular location compensates for this slightly higher cost by including a very large majority of equipment necessary such as ovens, chairs, shelving, prep tables etc. Having spoken to the agent and the former owners of the business, we concluded that the pizza restaurant that was originally in this facility failed because the owners invested about $350,000 into equipment and $150,000 into building renovations, and then couldn’t pay back the huge loan they had to take out. In this aspect, their loss is our gain, because the equipment is used and under lease, we only have to pay a fraction of the cost of the equipment, and our loan is much smaller, meaning smaller monthly payments. The landlord is also in the process of putting a large electric sign for the shopping center on Street. This means that we have another advantage the previous owners didn’t; our name on the side of a street with 150,000 Average Daily Traffic Count.

art of inclusion essays

art of inclusion essays Full Inclusion has become a nation wide movement to include more disabled students in regular classrooms. Full Inclusion ignores the issues of the individual child and focuses more on the social issues and aspects of things. While this program has been proven to be successful in some schools, full inclusion has only created problems in others and a change from status quo must occur. Costs, distracted students, and untrained teachers are just a few of the many problems involved. Full Inclusion is an extremely controversial idea involved in the education system today. The opinions concerning this topic widely differ yet not all of these concerns are taken into account. The status quo of full inclusion is a one size fits all philosophy which is greatly opposed for many different reasons. Inclusion is a term which explains the commitment to educate each child to the maximum extent appropriate, in the school and classroom he or she would otherwise attend. It involves bringing the support services to the child (instead of moving the child to the service) and requires only that the child will benefit from being in the class (instead of having to keep up with the other students). Full Inclusion opposed to inclusion means that all students, regardless of handicapping condition or severity, will be in a regular classroom or program full time. All services must be taken to the child in that setting (Special Education Inclusion). Those who support the idea of inclusion believe that the child always should begin in the regular environment and be removed only when the appropriate services can not be given in the regular classroom. The Status quo of full inclusion is stated in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The Act states that all students to the maximum extent appropriate, handicapped children, including those children in public and private institutions or other care facilities, are educated with childr...

Double O Heaven review of ;The World Is Not Enough; Essays

Double O Heaven review of ;The World Is Not Enough; Essays Double O Heaven review of ;The World Is Not Enough; Essay Double O Heaven review of ;The World Is Not Enough; Essay Well kids the latest Bond movie is out at a cinema near you and is set for the top of the charts. The World Is Not Enough contains all the typical Bond assets: guns, gadgets, getaways and of course the Bond girls! Throughout this article I will take you through all the ingredients to make a classic Bond, The World Is Not Enough is no exception to this. The World Is Not Enough is a formula film, as is every James Bond film. The formula must contain, lots of action, gadgets, the Bond girl, chase sequences and a load of explosions and stunts. The Hollywood high concept film contains fast-paced editing so dont blink or youll miss the action! As far as the mise en scene is concerned, the gadgets are surely the most noticeable props. I guess the first one to notice are the glasses with the button that Bond uses to trigger off a small explosive device disguised as a gun. From this diversion Bond can make his getaway from the Swiss bankers. Further into the movie, Bond chases an assassin who turns to the water in a speed-boat as an escape route. So Bond takes out a small, prototype powerboat from the MI6 Head Quarters and pursues the assassin down the River Thames. Now, Bonds boat is equipped with everything, from satellite maps of London to rockets. Naturally the film displays more gadgets which just seem to have gotten better as the years have passed. I believe the reason why there are so many new gadgets in the films is because all James Bond films have a very similar plot, an evil genius plans to take over the world, and Bond stops him, thus saving the world! The gadgets are what people go to see Bond for. They bring sus pense to the film, and the audience to the edge of their seats. Gadgets are used to make the viewer think I wonder what else he has up his sleeve? Famous landmarks such as The Tower of London, The Houses of Parliament and The MI6 Head Quarters symbolise the safety of the realm and the British establishment. As always the British are admirably defended by the unruffled Bond in his conservative suit. As usual in a Bond film there is no lack of sexist character/gender representation. Of course, Bond being male is represented as the strongest of all the characters and no woman could match him. This is also seen in the boat chase sequence. Bond gets the smaller, more versatile, faster and ultimately better boat. The woman gets the leisure cruiser/ speedboat, although she handles it well and is the victor throughout much of the race. Bond women are seen as weaker, and whether theyre on Bonds side or not they always seem to give in to his devilishly, irritating charm. And of course he wouldnt be James Bond if he didnt sleep with at least one woman, so that was always guaranteed. There is no sign of stopping those corny, sexist comments made by the man himself. For examples when a receptionist asks Bond How are my figures? he replies Oh, Im sure theyre perfectly rounded. Referring to her figure rather than her numbers. The Bond girls, look as if they have been created on a virtual real ity program, perfect in every way. The latest model sports a figure-hugging red catsuit but uses a variety of weapons adeptly proving herself to be a worthy adversary. There is a wide range of use of different camera angles to suit the action or surroundings. The best shot scene in the whole movie, must be the boat chase sequence. This scene uses just about all the camera shots possible. It has many panning and tracking shots, to set the momentum of the chase and also to show the setting is London as these camera angles show The Tower of London, Westminister and other famous landmarks. There are also many points of view and close up shots to emphasise emotions and feelings and extreme close ups for the effectiveness of Bonds gadgets. Low angle shots force us to see Bond as unusually vulnerable as he ends up on the edge of the balloon rope booking up at his powerful competitor. This creates tension until she conveniently blows herself up. The editing in The World Is Not Enough is superb. The chase sequence is excellent; it contains an important variety of camera shots. This variety of changing camera shots has made for an interesting hook that keeps the audience enthralled in the rest of the movie. It is very important that the scene is fast and exciting, many cuts to different camera angles ensure this. Editing is so important in the movie industry, and the editors of The World Is Not Enough have really hit the nail on the head. The constantly changing camera from Bond to the assassin helps increase the sense of competition. It also creates suspense, confusion and chaos, which keeps the audience riveted to the edge of their seats. The majority of cuts in a section where Bonds boat miraculously transforms itself into a road vehicle and drives through a cafà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½. Humour and tension are retained through the chaos through effective editing. Lighting is important because it is used to lighten up the atmosphere and relieve the tension. Darkness and shadows represents a lurking evil for example when the power (lights) goes out in the MI6 Head Quarters there seems to be a phantom menace. So the lighting is important and works in The World Is Not Enough. The more open combat between Bond and his femme fatale is by contrast in broad daylight. There are two parts of the sound I look at. First being diagetic sound, without this then the movie would be like a silent movie from the 1920s. Which is not necessarily a bad thing the comic genius Charlie Chaplin is considered one on cinemas legends and is far more popular than Pierce Brosnan, however silent movies would not appeal to modern audience. Diagetic sound includes; explosions, gunfire and engine noise, the sound-track is the non-diagetic sound, the classic James Bond theme music for example. This also includes suspense music, which is used to make the atmosphere more intense. I think on the overall basis, the hook of the opening scene of The World Is Not Enough is fantastic. Put together by the editing, sound, and mise en scene. It is this combination that sets for such an effective opening to the rest of this marvellous Bond flick. This has stayed within the limits of the classic Bond genre with modern technological additions Double O Heaven indeed. Race to a cinema near you now!

The Individual and the State Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Individual and the State - Essay Example In toerh ways, citizens give up some freedoms in return for the state guaranteeing much larger freedoms such as the right to live safely and to own personal property without it being stolen. Within this context, it would appear that "civil disobedience" would not be allowed. For civil disobedience would not bow to the general will, it would be an expression of natural right. This is only the case when the government of a country genuinely adheres to the general will, and when the social contract is being honored. Thus if a despotic ruler takes control, or if the citizens start to tyrannize their fellow people, then disobedience would be in order. This seems a sensible point of view. Most of the most advanced countries of the world adhere to the idea of the social contract, and thus civil disobedience is not needed. However, when the laws are demonstrably unjust (such as race laws in the American South in the 1950's) then a degree of "civil disobedience" (such as Rosa Parks) is legitimate. Rousseau would support such actions. In The Death of Socrates David portrays the last seconds in the life of Socrates, who had been condemned to death by the Athenian state for corrupting the morals of young men by his teaching methods. These teaching methods essentially enabled them to think for themselves and to question the logic of authority through the Socratic method of questioning. The main feature of the painting is the contrast between the powerful-looking, animated and yet controlled Socrates who is about to drink the hemlock with those of the young men surrounding him who seem miserable in their inability to accept the situation. Formally, Socrates is placed just to the right of center of the picture, and has a kind of light exuding from him. This makes him the most powerful figure in the painting. In contrast, his disciples are painted in a darker manner, and they are looking away from the figure of Socrates, even as one of the young men is handing him the hemlock. In this situation David is suggesting that the individual must stand up for what he believes in against the forces of the state. The masses are represented by the apparent anger of the old man looking at Socrates on the right. Two young men look at him like timid animals, while an old man sits at the end of the bed, apparently impotent to do anything. It is only Socrates who is facing the reality of the situation, as an individual must if he is to take on the state. c)What areas of shared concern can you identify between Rousseau's argument in The Social Contract and David in The Death of Socrates One major area of shared concern is what the individual should do when he/she is about to take on the state. Thus within The Social Contract the individual should in nearly all cases give up the "natural right" for the good of the whole mass of people. Essentially Socrates has demanded his freedom to assert his natural right through teaching the young men of Athens as he sees fit, rather as the state sees fit. The background to the scene in the painting is that Socrates has in fact refused to escape his death sentence, but rather voluntarily drinks the

Depth first-aid and the branches of it Essay Example for Free

Depth first-aid and the branches of it Essay First Aid, emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until more skillful medical treatment is available. First aid may save a life or improve certain vital signs including pulse, temperature, a patent (unobstructed) airway, and breathing. In minor emergencies, first aid may prevent a victims condition from worsening and provide relief from pain. First aid must be administered as quickly as possible. In the case of the critically injured, a few minutes can make the difference between complete recovery and loss of life. The First aid measures depend upon a victims needs and the providers level of knowledge and skill. Knowing what not to do in an emergency is as important as knowing what to do. Improperly moving a person with a neck injury, for example, can lead to permanent spinal injury and paralysis. Despite the variety of injuries possible, several principles of first aid apply to all emergencies. The first step is to call for professional medical help. Determine that the scene of the accident is safe before attempting to provide first aid. The victim, if conscious should be reassured that medical aid has been requested, and asked for permission to provide any first aid. Next, assess the scene, asking bystanders or the injured persons family or friends about details of the injury or illness, any care that may have already been given, and preexisting conditions such as diabetes or heart trouble. The victim should be checked for a medical bracelet or card that describes special medical conditions. Unless the accident scene becomes unsafe or the victim may suffer further injury, do not move the victim. First aid requires rapid assessment of victims to determine whether life-threatening conditions exist. One method for evaluating a victims condition is known by the acronym ABCs, which stands for: A Airwayis it open and unobstructed? B Breathingis the person breathing? Look, listen, and feel for breathing. C Circulationis there a pulse? Is the person bleeding externally? Check skin color and temperature for additional indications of circulation problems. Once obvious injuries have been evaluated, the injured persons head should be kept in a neutral position in line with the body. If no evidence exists to suggest potential skull or spinal injury, place the injured person in a comfortable position. Positioned on one side, a victim can vomit without choking or obstructing the airway. Before treating specific injuries, protect the victim from shocka depression of the bodys vital functions that, left untreated, can result in death. Shock occurs when blood pressure (pressure exerted against blood vessel walls) drops and the organs do not receive enough blood, depriving them of oxygen and nutrients. The symptoms of shock are anxiety or restlessness; pale, cool, clammy skin; a weak but rapid pulse; shallow breathing; bluish lips; and nausea. These symptoms may not be apparent immediately, as shock can develop several hours after an accident. To prevent shock, the victim should be covered with blankets or warm clothes to maintain a normal body temperature. The victims feet should be elevated. Because of the danger of abdominal injuries, nothing should be administered by mouth. Asphyxiation occurs when air cannot reach the lungs, cutting off the supply of oxygen to circulating blood. This can cause irreparable damage to the brain. Among the causes of asphyxiation are drowning, gas poisoning, overdose of narcotics, electrocution, choking, and strangulation. Victims may collapse, be unable to speak or breathe, and have bluish skin. Most people will suffer brain death within four to six minutes after breathing ceases unless first aid is administered. In the case of choking, a procedure known as the Heimlich maneuver can be used to clear the windpipe of food or other objects. In this procedure quick upward thrusts are applied to the victims abdomen to eject the object blocking the windpipe. For victims of other types of asphyxiation, the most practical method of artificial respiration is the mouth-to-mouth technique in which the first-aid provider forcefully exhales air into the victims lungs after first clearing the airway of any obstruction. The provider tilts the victims head backward by placing one hand under the victims chin and lifting while the other hand presses down on the victims forehead. At this point, the mouth and airway can be checked for foreign objects, which can be removed with the fingers. In cases of drowning, artificial respiration should be attempted even if the victim appears dead. People submerged in cold water for more than 30 minutes who appeared blue have responded to first-aid efforts and recovered with no brain damage. The presence of blood over a considerable area of a persons body does not always indicate severe bleeding. The blood may ooze from multiple small wounds or be smeared, giving the appearance of more blood than is actually present. The rate at which blood is lost from a wound depends on the size and kind of blood vessel ruptured. Bright red, spurting blood indicates injury to an artery while welling or steadily flowing, dark red blood indicates injury to a vein. Welling or spurting blood is an unmistakable sign of severe bleeding. If a major artery ruptures, a person may bleed to death within a minute. Injuries to veins and minor arteries bleed more slowly but may also be fatal if left unattended. Shock usually results from loss of fluids, such as blood, and must be prevented as soon as the loss of blood has been stopped. A poisonous substance introduced into the body through the mouth or nose causes symptoms such as nausea, cramps, and vomiting. Poisons include toxic medications, herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, household disinfectants, and noxious gases. In a case of poisoning, the first-aid provider should remove the victim from a toxic environment, then contact the poison control center listed in most  United States phone books. If the number is unavailable, the provider should call a physician or hospital emergency department. If possible, the provider should try to identify the poison, either by questioning the victim or searching for suspicious containers. Containers of many poisonous substances list the antidote, or remedy, on the label. Burns or stains on the skin or a characteristic odor on the breath may also help the first-aid provider recognize the poison. Unless instructed to do so by the poison control center, the first-aid provider should never give a poisoning victim anything to eat or drink. Vomiting should not be induced unless the poison control center recommends it. If the victim vomits, the first-aid provider should turn the individual on the side and clear the airway. Before clearing the victims mouth of any obstructions, however, the provider should first put on clean first-aid gloves or wrap a cloth around his or her fingers. If the person who ingested the poison is unconscious, the airway, breathing, and circulation should be checked and CPR started if necessary.

Critical Response to the Turn of the Screw Essay -- Henry James

Henry James’ novella the Turn of the Screw is a highly ambiguous piece of fiction. Set in Edwardian England, a very naà ¯ve woman is left in charge of two young children. The beautiful Bly however appears to be hiding a few dark secrets. The appearance of two ghosts plays on the governess’ mind, she comes to the conclusion the children are in danger and being possessed by these two horrors. Throughout the novella James successfully creates a mystical atmosphere, his ambiguous style forces us to think twice about what is written and decide for ourselves whether or not this is purely a ghost story or something far more sinister. However after several reads and a close look behind the words, it becomes clear that the ‘ghosts’ that haunt the house of Bly are nothing more than hallucinations and may be the result of a serious case of sexual repression in the governess. The governess is a hopeless romantic, that becomes clear at the very beginning. The daughter of a poor parishioner, the governess has had a very sheltered life, making her into quite a naà ¯ve woman, but no doubt very curious. The governess had only once had a position involving children before she accepted the position at Bly. She was quite nervous and unsure in regards to her own abilities. Yet she took the job. Why? She believed the employer to be the most handsome of men, with a most kind and generous nature. This opinion was formed over one very short meeting. As the governess arrives at Bly she mentions â€Å"I had expected something quite dull and dreary, so this place was a wonderful surprise. I wondered why he (employer) had failed to mention it†. The governess is also quick to tell the housekeeper Mrs Grose â€Å"I am carried away quite easily. I was carried away in Londo... ...ce was close and he let me kiss it† and her description of Miles saying â€Å"oh you know what a boy wants† are all unnecessary. The plot of the ghosts corrupting the children is what the governess’ tales is supposed to be about, just a ghost story. So adding in constant little sentences like these makes us question whether this is really a ghost story at all, or something more vindictive. The ambiguity of this novella shows that the ghosts cannot possibly be real and are a mere figure of the governess’ imagination. Her romantic, whimsical state of mind, strange and elaborate use of words and clearly shown indecency with Miles gives sufficient evidence to say she was suffering a severe case of sexual repression, brought on by her sheltered childhood and lonely position in society. However these circumstances are no excuse for the damage she caused those poor children.

Middle Childhood and Adolescences

Human growth development theory is an organized statement of values and generalization that provides an outline for understanding how and why people change as they grow from infant to adulthood. Theorist tries to make sense out of observations and construct a story of the human journey from infancy through childhood or adulthood (P. H. Miller, 2002, p. 2). The theories link proofs with patterns, merging the details of life into a meaningful complete picture of human growth development. Freud and Erickson state that human beings, starting at infancy through adulthood pass a series of psychosexual and psychosocial stages of development. The stages that will be discussed will be a combination of Freud and Erickson oral, identify vs. role of confusion, and phallic stages. There are six stages that Freud elaborated on but the first six years occurs in three stages each characterized by psychosexual pleasure center on difference parts of the body. However, Erikson’s stages differ sig nificantly from Freud’s in that they emphasize family and culture, not sexual urges. He called his theory epigenetic, partly to stress that the expression of genes, as of biological impulses, is powerfully influenced by the social environment (Berger, p. 9, 2010). According to, Freud during the first stage of personality development with is the oral stage from birth to one year, the infant’s tongue, and gums are the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby’s body, sucking, and feeding are the most stimulating actives. The mouth is an important source for feeding and eating. In addition this allows the infant to develop gratification with pleasure from oral stimulation through activities such as tasting and sucking. Therefore, the infant is completely dependent on its parent or guardian that is responsible for feeding and nurturing the infant.Freud also stated that the oral stimulation could lead to oral dependencies later in life. For example oral personaliti es such as thumb sucking, nail biting, and smoking. These behaviors are exhibit when an individual is under stress (McLeod, S. A. 2008). Phallic Stage is another stage of human growth development. According to, Freud this stage starts at three though six years of age. This stage is when children become aware of their body organs. In additional, adolescences are also aware of their parents and other children that are around them. This pleasure switches between the oral nd anal stage to the phallic stage. The pleasure is not emphasized on the genitals. Freud has stated that the male develops an unconscious desire for the mother. Therefore, the male become in conflict with the adult male or caregiver seeing him as competition for the mother affection. This fixation gives the male an Oedipus complex, which is Freud psychoanalytic theory. This theory is the desire for sexual involvement with parent of opposite sex and a sense of rivalry with the parent of the same sex; a crucial stage in the normal developmental process.Girls have been known to have an attraction for their father. This is known as the Electra Complex, but Freud strongly disagreed with this theory (Britannica. com). According to Freud, because strong competition with the male figures the male eventually decide to identify with the father rather than come in conflict with him. Because of this the boy develops masculine characteristics and identifies himself as a male, and represses his sexual feelings toward his mother. A fixation at this stage could result in unacceptable sexual behavior and confused sexual identity according to psychoanalysts (McLeod, S.A. 2008). Identity vs. role confusion is the Erikson six stage of human development. This stage takes place between the ages of 13-18. This is an important stage of development for adolescence because this is the transition from childhood to adulthood. Adolescents try to figure out â€Å"who am I? † They establish sexual, political, and vocat ional identities or are confused about what role to play (Berger, p. 19). This stage of human development allows the adolescent to identify what role he will occupy as an adult. In this role the adolescents will re-examine his identify to try to figure out â€Å"Who am I? † Erickson suggests that two identities are involved. These identities involve the sexual an occupational. According to (Bee, 1992) at the end of this stage â€Å"a reintegrate sense of self, or what one wants to do or be, and of one’s appropriate sex role. † During the six stages the body image of the adolescent began to change. This stages is also were the adolescent start to feel uncomfortable about their body for a while until they can adapt and change into their new image.Based upon the outcome of their adapting the adolescent can start to begin to form their own identity. Nevertheless, the adolescent can also start to become confuse about themselves, such as what is their place in the worl d and what they want to be when that grow up. In evaluating Freud Erikson human development theories it has been learned that both saw personality developing throughout a lifecycle of each individual. Each looks at and identified the crises at each stage in development. In addition difference psychologist believe that different phases are more important than other phases, but what most psychologist do agree on it that one stage leads to the next stage. Shakespeares Macbeth and Dr. Faustus Bargain - 788 Words

During Macbeths never-ending ambitious strive for power in Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, he makes his own Faustian Bargain similar to Dr. Faustus. The theme of ambition dominates both their stories. Even though he does not directly deal with the devil as Faustus does, the consequence of his bargain is greater. Not only does he loose his life, but his wife and everything he had risked for. The witches tempt Macbeth with their words of prophecy and fate. By listening and acting upon those words, he makes his Faustian Bargain. And as is known in literature, when a character acts upon fate or prophecy they fail. When the witches meet Macbeth, they greet him as Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and king hereafter(Shakespeare 1.3.51-53). Macbeth instantly becomes intrigued with these three words that contain so much power. This is when he ignorantly makes his bargain, Stay you imperfect speakers. Tell me more...Say from whence/ You owe this strange intelligence or why...with such proph etic greeting (1.3.73-81). Unlike Banquo, who is undisturbed by this foretelling, Macbeth is captivated by his learned fate. Unconsciously, this bargain entails much more than what Macbeth expected. He loses possible salvation for his soul, sanity, and everything that makes his life living. There are two notable occasions when the readers can see Macbeth losing his sanity.
